Life of a Firewatcher

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

7351 Hwy 90,
Cumberland Falls State Resort Park,
Corbin, KY 40701

The Pinnacle Knob Fire Tower was constructed in 1937 by the U.S. Forest Service. “Firewatchers” would live at the tower during fire season until the late 1960’s when it was closed and eventually fell into disrepair. The cabin was restored in 2008 with much care taken to maintain its authenticity.

Throughout the year the tower is open from 10am to 3pm for tours where a staff member will explain the role of the firewatcher. The hike to the tower is about 1-mile in length and is strenuous in sections.

Call or stop by the lodge front desk for directions.
