About

The Pinnacle Knob Fire Tower was constructed in 1937 by the U.S. Forest Service.  The “firewatchers” would live in the cabin on top of the tower during fire seasons.  By the late 1960’s the tower was closed and over the next several decades the tower fell into disrepair.  The cabin was restored in 2008 and much care was taken to maintain the tower’s authenticity.  On certain scheduled dates throughout the year the tower will be open from 10am to 3pm.  A park staff person will be on hand to explain the role of the fire watcher.  The hike to the tower is about one mile in length and is strenuous in sections.  You may obtain directions to the trail head by contacting the park or ask at the front desk of the DuPont Lodge.
