Youth Fishing Derby

This is a fun day for youth ages 15 and under. A cooperative effort between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and Barren River Lake State Resort Park provides youth an opportunity to learn about fishing. We provide the poles (or you can bring your own), the bait and drinking water.
Bowfishing 101

Bowfishing 101 is a FREE introduction to Bowfishing. The event includes a classroom-style seminar using power point for questions and answers, and also a hands-on demonstration with instruction for bowfishing. You will learn about basic bowfishing equipment, types of fish to hunt, safe bowfishing practices, times of the year best suited for bowfishing, different ways to go bowfishing, how to handle the fish after they have been shot, and proper cleaning and disposal. You will learn to shoot by means of a simulated hunt situation. Once you're familiar with shooting, you'll target shoot with prizes awarded. Finally, we put your skills to the test and take you to the water for the real thing. You will usually be hunting for Carp, Gar, Buffalo, Catfish and Drum.
Bowfishing is the fastest growing archery activity today that everyone can participate in, which makes this a great family outing. There will be a meet and greet on Friday evening, with the seminar beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

4th of July Celebration

Our annual 4th of July Fireworks Celebration. We start off the day with a beach party and plenty of fun and games. There will be live entertainment at 6 p.m. followed by the fireworks display at 9 p.m. Our activities will continue throughout the weekend with our annual "whatever floats your boat" contest on Saturday. Other activities such as the pre-4th block party on the 3rd include karaoke and the non-motorized parade.
Barren River's Overnight Canoe Trips

2nd Annual Youth Boot Camp

Bring your young soldier, ages 6 to 12 to this fun morning of "boot camp." Our drill sergeants will have the troops in line in no time. "Soldiers" will be doing a lot of fun skills such as PT, paint ball gun, obstacle course, drill and hand signals. The morning will wrap up with drill followed by a hot dog lunch. Fee of $5 per person.
