Elk Viewing Tour - January
1/12/08, 1/19/08, 1/26/08 and 1/27/08

Elk were introduced to Kentucky beginning in 1997 as a restoration project from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Prior to the release, elk had been gone from Kentucky for nearly 150 years. Come witness this magnificent animal. This tour is designed for any age group as the tours occur on vans on reclaimed surface mined areas. Tour price is $20 per adult and $10 for children under the age of 12.

 

Buffalo Night - January
1/26/2008

Enjoy a festive buffet meal of buffalo meat and all the fixings’ including carved buffalo, fried chicken, buffalo chili, and assorted vegetables and desserts. Planned nature and recreation activities are available as well. Bring the whole family to this annual event.

Easter Egg Hunt
3/22/2008

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt at the campground for kids ages 12 and under. There will be individual areas for different age groups.

Operation Clean Sweep
3/29/2008

Come join us for a fun-filled day, while working to keep our park clean. In the morning, we will work to pick up as much litter as possible and then come together in the afternoon for a cookout for all the volunteers.

Hillbilly Night
4/19/2008

It’s Hillbilly Days again in eastern Kentucky. Enjoy a festive hillbilly supper with roasted pig carved on the line, fried chicken, barbecued ribs, and all the trimmings, including assorted vegetables and desserts. It is good eating to make you say “Yee Haw”. The event is held the same weekend as the annual Hillbilly Festival in nearby Pike County, Kentucky.

Camper's Appreciation
4/25/2008 to 4/26/2008

Camp one night and get the second night free! There will be planned nature and recreation activities for all ages. Enjoy a free cookout for all campers on Saturday night. Please bring a covered dish, as the park will supply the hotdogs and buns.

Overnight Canoe Trip on Upper Dewey Lake
6/7/08 to 6/8/08

This excursion is a guided, naturalist overnight canoe trip on Dewey Lake. We'll canoe to the upper reaches of the lake to a cabin that once occupied workers that built the lake in the 1940's and now maintained by the Oddfellos Youth Camp. There we will spend the night and tell stories around the campfire. The next morning includes a tree and wildflower hike exploring the Dewey Lake Wildlife Management Area. The registration fee of $50 per person includes an evening cookout, overnight cabin stay, breakfast, hike, and more.

Bowfishing 101 - The Basics of Bowfishing

Do you love the outdoors, hunting, fishing, or just like new challenges. Come join us for a day of fun-filled excitement as Jenny Wiley State Resort Park teams up with Mr. Dan Richardson with "Passing on the Tradition Hunting and Fishing Support Group" for a new activity that is up and coming to this region. Bowfishing is an exciting way to combine archery and fishing and is one of the fastest growing archery sports to date that is sure to leave you wanting to do it over and over again. We will be offering this training at no cost, educating individuals on the does and don'ts of this enjoyable sport. Enjoy a festive buffet night of elk meat with all the fixings, including carved elk, elk meatloaf, elk potpie, fried chicken, and assorted vegetables and salads, and a dessert bar. Planned nature and recreation activities and elk viewing tours will be available during the day. Elk have recently been introduced to Kentucky as a wildlife reintroduction program. Before the release in 1997, elk had been gone from Kentucky for nearly 150 years. Come celebrate the return of the elk to eastern Kentucky.

If you like to be scared, then Jenny Wiley State Resort Park is the place to be! Come join this annual event and take a tractor-pulled hay ride that you soon won't forget. The Haunted Hay Ride will be held in the Campground and will begin at dark. Fee is $4.00 per person.

Come join the Recreation Staff for an evening of ghosts, ghouls, and spooks! The evenings activities will consist of a costume dance, a live Ghost Hunt, costume contest, and much more. While you are there, take part in the Haunted Hay Ride. Happy Haunting!!!
