Guided Elk Viewing Tour

Pine Mountain State Resort Park will again conduct fall and winter guided elk tours in 2008-09. With sightings that now average between 75-100 animals per trip, the tours have proven to be wildly popular.

Participation in the Friday “Elk in Kentucky” program the evening before the tour is strongly encouraged, as it will serve as an invaluable enhancement to your enjoyment of the tour on Saturday morning. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, camera, water, and snacks. Park lodging reservations must be made separately.

The Saturday van tour leaves the park at approximately 5:15 am and usually returns by 10:30 am. Observations will be made from both inside and outside the vans. Walking distances are minimal. While outside the vans, all members of the tour must stay together and participants are not permitted to leave the tour to explore on their own. As well, participants are not permitted to follow tour vans in their own vehicles.

For children under 8 years of age, careful consideration should be given as to whether or not they will remain attentive and interested for the duration of the tour. As the tour provider, we feel obligated to make every reasonable effort to assure that the tour experience is enjoyable for everyone. Kentucky's Child Restraint Law requires that every child less than 40 inches in height be restrained in a federally approved child safety seat any time the van is in motion. It should also be noted that public restrooms will not be available on the tour.

Elk in Kentucky are free-ranging wild animals. While the elk viewing percentage at this site is high and chances are excellent that elk will be observed, sightings are not guaranteed. We expect to see elk on every tour, but please note that refunds will not be given in the event elk are not observed.
