This is a great chance to introduce your family to camping. Enjoy an afternoon full of fun and stay the night under the stars. Hot days but still need to get some exercise?  Take our new trail "Sportman's Hill Trail" and learn some interesting facts about how horse racing began in Kentucky.  Enjoy some cold ice cream back at the park picnic shelter to cool down.  What a way to enjoy a summer afternoon! Beginning in 1788 William Whitley would host a race meet at Sportsman Hill featuring big breakfasts and fine horses that would draw folks from all over. His races are considered forerunners to the Kentucky Derby and his reputation as a breeder and trainer helped establish the area as a horse capital.
