Golf

Kentucky is one of the greatest places for golf you’ll ever find. Kentucky State Parks have 16 public golf courses and offer a variety of overnight packages and discount offers. Golfers can also reserve tee times online at discount prices by visiting www.parks.ky.gov/golf. The parks also sell discount cards for individual courses as well as trail cards for unlimited play at any course location. There are twelve 18-hole courses and four 9-hole courses at Kentucky State Parks — all should be on your “must-play” list.

The golf courses have carts, pro shops, practice areas and other amenities to make your day on the links enjoyable.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park Lucas, KY

General Burnside Island State Park Burnside, KY

The damming of the Cumberland River in the 1950s, producing Lake Cumberland, also covered the lower peninsula of Burnside, creating the island that is now General Burnside Island State Park. It has the distinction of being the only island park in the Kentucky State Park system. The park was named for the sideburn-whiskered Civil War general Ambrose Burnside. PHONE: 606-561-4104

General Butler State Resort Park Carrollton, KY

Located along I-71 between Louisville and Cincinnati, the park is a fitting tribute to one of Kentucky's foremost military families. Named for General William Orlando Butler, the military family spans from colonial time through the American Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican War and Civil War. A stone overlook was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930s so guests can enjoy the same river scenes the Butlers viewed in times past. Grayson Lake State Park Olive Hill, KY

CALL: 606-474-9727 Sheer sandstone canyons and gentle slopes are a featured quality of the 1,512 acres of Grayson Lake State Park. The park's site was a favorite camping area for former occupants: the Shawnee and Cherokee Native Americans.
