There are more than 300 miles of hiking trails throughout the KY state park system, with trails of all lengths and difficulty levels covering a variety of terrain. They include short family (and pet) friendly trails near a park lodge of less than a mile as well as more adventurous trails through grand mountainous regions. The newest addition is 18 miles of the Dawkins Line Rail Trail in Eastern Kentucky, which will cover 36 miles when completed — good for a few days of hiking.
Kentucky State Parks trails are marked and hikers are asked to follow the rules such as staying on the trail and not getting too close to wildlife. Several parks offer guided hikes throughout the year. Many parks also have campsites, so you can set up camp and stay a night or two while you explore the local trails.
