Clean Ups & Leave No Trace

Several Kentucky State Parks hold park clean ups throughout the year. Continue to scroll down for a list of participating parks and more information about  the Leave No Trace policy.

2017 Spring Clean Ups  

Jenny Wiley State Resort Park
Operation Clean Sweep, March 18

Registration starts at 9 a.m. to clean up the park and lakeshore. Meet at the convention center parking lot. A free cookout for volunteers will be held at 1 p.m. at the campground dance pad. T-shirts will be given to volunteers who pick up two bags of trash. For information, call Trinity Shepherd at 606-889-1790.

Taylorsville Lake State Park
Trail Clean up, March 18

The Friends of Taylorsville Lake State Park will hold a trail clean-up day on March 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers should meet in the day use parking lot and bring work gloves. Call the park at 502-477-8713.

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park
East Kentucky Pride, March 25

Volunteers will pick up roadside trash along Highway 90. The cleanup will end with a cookout at noon. 
Park clean up May 20
This park-sponsored clean up takes place along the riverbank in the falls area starting at 9 a.m. A cookout will be held at noon. Call 606-528-4121.

Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site
Park Day, April 1

Volunteers are asked to gather at the park between 8-9 a.m. to help clear brush and trees as well as clean up park trails. The park’s friends group will provide lunch. The Civil War Trust will provide shirts to volunteers. Call 859-332-8631.

Paintsville Lake State Park
Annual Clean up, April 1

Groups can volunteer to help clean up litter from around the lake. Garbage bags, gloves and other materials will be provided. A cookout will be held for volunteers. For more information, call 606-297-6312.

Old Fort Harrod State Park
Pick up the Park, April 8

Community volunteers can help clean up the park between 8 a.m. to noon to prepare for the annual Easter egg hunt. Water, coffee, gloves and trash bags will be provided. Call 859-734-3314.

Yatesville Lake State Park
Annual Lake Cleanup, April 8

The annual lake cleanup for Yatesville Lake will start at 9 a.m. at the Lawrence County Park Shelter. Call 606-673-1492.

Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park
Annual Lakeshore Clean up, April 22

Volunteers can pick up litter around the lakeshore. Garbage bags, gloves and drinking water will be provided. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the Marina Road above the beach area and a cookout for volunteers will be held after the cleanup at the lower shelter. Columbus-Belmont State Park
Park Clean Up Day, April 29

This annual event brings history enthusiasts together in an effort to help keep our nation’s heritage preserved and pristine.  Tasks will include raking leaves, picking up trash and limbs, planting flowers and shrubs, and trail maintenance.  Bring gloves, rakes, gardening tools.  Participants will be given a light lunch and a T-shirt.
