Taking place on the first Saturday in June, National Trails Day® is a day of public events aimed at advocacy and trail service. The annual event is hosted by the American Hiking Society. Several Kentucky State Parks are hosting events and you're invited!
Big Bone Lick State Historic Site
Saturday, June 4; 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Put your best foot forward on one of the park’s five hiking trails, or join the park’s staff for a hiking program on National Trails Day!
9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Bison Trace & Cedar Run Trail Mosaic Hike
1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tobacco Hiking Sticks ($)
9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Bison Trace & Cedar Run Trail Mosaic Hike: The outing begins with a guided walk to see the bison herd and hear of their natural history. The hiking begins as we progress along upland forest ridges through a genuinely peaceful area of Big Bone Lick. Enjoy the serenity of wooded seclusion as you ply the trails of one of Kentucky’s most unique parks. We will be walking up to 2.0 miles on moderate, uneven terrain. Meet at Museum.
1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tobacco Hiking Sticks ($): Come decorate your own piece of Kentucky heritage, the tobacco stick. These sticks were used to hang and dry tobacco on farms all over Kentucky. Today they make awesome walking sticks! You can paint, wood burn and feather your own special tobacco stick to take on the trail. $5 per walking stick. Meet at Recreation Shelter. Columbus-Belmont State Park
Saturday, June 4
Enjoy the natural beauty of Columbus-Belmont State Park by taking a History Hike around the grounds, nature trail, and through the historic earthworks. A map and bottle of water will be provided at the Snack Bar. A scavenger hunt will be issued with a Museum admission. A prize will be awarded when scavenger hunt is complete and returned to Museum. Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park

Help us celebrate National Trails day with a hike to our popular scenic overlook, Eagles Point. We will experience some breathtaking scenes of Dale Hollow Lake. It is a moderate 1.6 mile round trip. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring your water bottle. Leashed pets welcome!

General Butler State Resort Park

The 30th anniversary of the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day is a day of service and advocacy for hometown trails. Join us on the trails!
Meet at the picnic area near mini golf to make your own walking stick for $5 (bring cash) with an exclusive General Butler medallion and other crafty décor. We will then, hit the Butler Lake Trail (approx. 1.25 miles) which loops around our 30-acre lake. Popsicles will be provided as a complimentary post-hike treat. John James Audubon State Park

Are you looking for a memorable adventure on National Trails Day? Bring your whole family to experience the trails of the state park's nature preserve in ways few people have--after hours, with approaching darkness—a TWILIGHT HIKE—Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 P.M.! Discover what changes take place as the woodland inhabitants settle in for the night. Naturalists will lead you on a 2.1- mile hike over moderate terrain, traversing hills and a staircase. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring a plastic lantern or flashlight with you. Meet at Warbler Road trailhead by the Welcome Center. Cancelled if raining. Natural Bridge State Resort Park

Come celebrate National Trails Day at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park. The park naturalist will be leading a night hike on the golf course path. We will see what kind of creatures enjoy the night time! Come see what critter you can see and hear on this fun hike. Approximately 1 mile long and about 1.5-2 hours long.
