Hike Smart at Kentucky State Parks!
Tips to make your experience safe and enjoyable

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
young couple stopping on trail for a drink of water⦁    How long is your chosen trail?
⦁    Is it a loop or do you need to allow for return mileage?
⦁    Is the trail terrain easy, moderate or strenuous?  Is everyone in your group up for the level of activity?
⦁    How much time do you need?  Average pace allows for 1.5 miles per hour on easy trails.  Consider 1.2 miles per hour on a strenuous trail.
⦁    Does someone know where you are going and when you plan to be back?
⦁    What is the weather forecast?
⦁    Review Leave No Trace Principles
