Welcome to Barren River Lake State Resort Park - home to lush green rolling hills, a boastful 10,000 acre lake and some of the most spectacular wildlife in southern Kentucky. Whether you are out for a short day trip, quick overnight stay, or a week-long family vacation, Barren River Lake State Resort Park has something for everyone. The nostalgic Louie B. Nunn Lodge features many different amenities for our park guests, including five spacious indoor meeting rooms. Visit the Recreation hall to see live reptiles, read storybooks, and discover Kentucky wildlife. Embrace nature with plentiful outdoor activities on-site or take a day trip less than 35 miles to Mammoth Cave National Park or the Corvette Museum. We are located in Lucas, Ky., just off highway 31-E between Nashville and Louisville.
Lodging & Camping
You can enjoy a good night’s rest by staying in our 51 room lodge overlooking the majestic lake. All of our rooms have lake facing balconies with chairs and a small table. Relax with wi-fi access in the comfort of your lodge room, or access the list of HD channels. If you’re interested in more peace and tranquility, take advantage of the 22, two bedroom, two bath cabins offered at Barren River Lake. Each cabin has 4 beds, full kitchen, dining room, living room, picnic table and grill. Ask to upgrade and experience the luxury of our Villas which add more space, screened in back porch and a gas fireplace. Open year-round. Rooms are available by late afternoon. Lodge room check-out by 11 a.m. local time. We are now pet friendly. No more than two pets are allowed per room/cottage. High speed wireless internet service available at the lodge.
Let the sounds of the outdoors lull you to sleep in the 99-site campground. Utility hookups are available, some with sewer hookups and wooden decks. For your convenience, a dump station and two central service buildings with showers and rest rooms are offered. Pets are allowed if restrained. Electric service at all sites (100V/30A). Things to Do
A lighted basketball court located by the lodge is a great place to shoot some hoops with an amazing lake overlook just outside the court. A half-court is also available in the campground during camping season. Overnight guests may check out sports equipment at the recreation office in the lodge.
Bike & Hiking Trail: two-and-one half mile loop, paved, begins at golf course entrance near lodge, restrooms available near Highland Field.
Barren River State Resort Park offers year-round birding opportunities with the best occurring fall through spring. Neotropical migrants such as flycatchers, thrushes and warblers are common in the fall and spring and waterbird migration occurs from late summer through spring. The best period for observing Bald Eagles is October through March when they are regularly seen at the park, and Sandhill Cranes are often seen November through February.
Barren River has boat launches available for the public in the campground and a boat launch with a courtesy dock next to the marina. The marina at the state dock has 100 open slips, 40 covered slips, a launching ramp, and boat rentals available. Marina telephone: 270-646-2357. Website:
Barren River Lake also is unsurpassed for fishing pleasure. With an abundance of hybrid bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, and catfish, you are sure to get a bite! A Kentucky Fishing License is required. Click here to purchase a license online at KY Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Don't have fishing equipment? No problem! Ask at the park front desk or recreation office about their fishing loaner program where you can check out FREE equipment.

Four self-guided trails on park. Connell Nature Trail begins at the Villa Entrance and passes next to a stream and through the wooded hills. Peters Creek Trail Loop starts from the Bike Trail near the highland field and loops through the woods, then along the lake edge. The paved Bicycle and Hiking Trail is a two-and-one half mile loop, that begins near the lodge playground, reaches the highland field, and passes through the golf course and woods. Campers Cove is a quarter mile out and back path which travels down to the lake edge along paths that were once used for primitive camping, open during camping season only.
Orienteering is a sport in woods navigation where a person uses a map and compass to complete a course. It can be done by yourself or with your family. It is a great way to spend part of the day discovering new parts of the park! Barren River Lake State Resort Park offers a two permanent orienteering courses. A beginners’ course covering 1.6 km featuring 9 controls (check points) and an intermediate course covering 3.9 km featuring 16 controls, both in a wooded setting.
Enjoy an afternoon outdoors with family and friends at one of the 2 uncovered picnic areas or rent one of the seven onsite picnic shelters for a family party. Depending on location, shelters may have access to nearby restrooms, playgrounds, and sports fields. For rental information CLICK HERE.
There are three playgrounds open year-round on park where kids can run and have fun. There are also 2 seasonal playgrounds available at the campground and beach.
