Nestled among the hills; this is the perfect place for folks who want to get away from it all. The resort offers lodge rooms, cottages, a restaurant, and hiking trails.

- Visit the lodge and see handcrafted replicas of the buildings of Bowlingtown that stood where the lake is today.
- Enjoy a swim at the sandy beach or in our pool during the summer months.
- Take a short hike on our trails to enjoy the beauty of our mountains and abundant wildlife.
- Enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner in the Bowlingtown Country Kitchen lodge dining room.
Basketball
A basketball goal is located on Marina Road. Sporting equipment may be checked out at the front desk.
Birding
Eagles nesting in the winter months can be spotted from the Lodge lobby or dining room. Both the Leatherwood and Moonshine Hollow Trails are great opportunities to hear and see many woodland species. As spring arrives, so does the Warbler migration. You can also see waterfowl such as the Belted Kingfisher, Red-Winged Blackbird, and the Great Blue Heron.
Boating
Water sports enthusiasts will find entertainment on Buckhorn Lake. Two launching ramps are available.
Fishing
You can cast away your cares at Buckhorn Lake! The lake is home to largemouth and Kentucky bass, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and muskie. A Kentucky Fishing License is required. Click here to purchase a license online at KY Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Don't have a fishing pole? No problem! Stop by the Front Desk at the lodge and ask about their fishing loaner program where you can check out FREE equipment. Fishing is only available May - October.
Gift Shop
Located in the lodge lobby, overlooking Buckhorn Lake, you will find a gift shop kiosk with souvenir and Kentucky crafted items.
Hiking
Hikers can explore the natural beauty and resources of Buckhorn Lake with a stroll along a 1.5-mile, self-guiding, moderately strenuous walking trail.
Horseshoes
If you enjoy friendly competition, then Buckhorn is the place for you. Horseshoe pits can be found at the playground area and lower shelter. Overnight guests may check out equipment at the front desk.
Miniature Golf
The challenging 18-hole miniature golf course provides a great opportunity for family fun! Open April 1 - October 31. ($) Equipment may be checked out at the front desk.
Picnicking
Picnic areas can be found at various scenic locations across the park. A covered Upper Shelter views the forest and mountains with tables, grill, and restrooms. A covered Lower Shelter overlooks the lake with picnic tables, grill, and access to restrooms. Both are located on Picnic Area Lane. Contact Group Sales for rental information.
Playgrounds
The playground offers a jungle gym, both infant and traditional swings, and a slide. It overlooks the lake and is close to the beach area.
Swimming
The lodge swimming pool is for the exclusive use of lodge and cottage guests. The public beach has a bathhouse complex for visitor convenience. Swimming is seasonal. The beach is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Severe weather can have an effect on beach closures. Please call the park in advance for conditions.
