Kentucky State Parks put the “special” in special events, celebrating everything from wildflowers in the spring to spectacular fall colors in the mountain and lake areas.

From Elk viewing tours to ghost walks or reenactments and living history events, there are weekends full of fun, free entertainment to create special memories with your family and friends. Search KY state parks below by date range or by park name to view a list of each individual park’s events and read about each one. You and the kids can pick out which destinations and events you want to enjoy, then start building your itinerary.

If you've always wanted to learn how to paint, this is your weekend! We will have Bob Ross instructor, Kim Vanlandingham, here to teach classes over the weekend. Learn the wet-on-wet method of oil painting by creating your very own 16x20 landscape painting. Elk were reintroduced to Kentucky in 1997 as a restoration project by the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife. From 1997 - 2003 approximately 1513 elk were transported into Kentucky. Reproduction has been very high, with approximately 90% of the adult cows producing calves. Currently, the estimated elk population in Kentucky is over 10,000 elk. The best areas for elk habitat are on reclaimed surface mines in Eastern Kentucky.

Since 1992 Kentucky Chautauqua programs have brought to life more than 70 people from Kentucky's past, both famous and unknown. This program is based around retelling Kentucky's history, and made available through the Kentucky Humanities Council.

Scott Collins Old Fashioned One-Man-Band Sing Along at Waveland

Come, sing, laugh & learn along with Lexington, KY native & 1 man band Wm "Scott" Collins as he demonstrates several different musical instruments. You'll experience fun traditional songs & beautiful American melodies from Kentucky's rich past in the historic Waveland mansion. Y'all come now, ya hear?
