Winter Operations

Operational Dates & Hours

From November through early spring, most Kentucky State Parks remain open and ready to welcome visitors while operating with modified hours and seasonal facility availability.

In addition to winter operations, some parks may be temporarily closed or have limited access due to ongoing renovation and improvement projects. Learn more about current and upcoming park improvements here.

State Park Lodges, Restaurants, and Campgrounds

Some state park lodges and cottages remain open, though lodge room availability may be limited to certain days of the week at several locations. For dining, several park restaurants will offer reduced service, primarily operating from Wednesday to Sunday with modified hours. Seasonal campers should note that most campgrounds are closed from mid-November to mid-March, with some exceptions for year-round camping.

Golf Courses and Outdoor Recreation

Kentucky State Park golf courses are open all year long, weather permitting, offering breathtaking views of winter landscapes. Trails, scenic overlooks, and fishing spots also remain accessible, allowing guests to enjoy outdoor adventures even in winter.

State Historic Sites and Museums

State historic sites and park museums adjust their hours for winter, with many locations offering appointments or specific hours for visitors. Some historic homes and museums will open only for scheduled events or remain closed until spring.
