Recreation Parks

Calling all hikers, bikers, water sports enthusiasts, boaters, anglers, horseback riders, and campers, outdoor adventures abound at Kentucky’s state recreational parks. Immerse yourself in gorgeous Bluegrass scenery as you hike, bike, or horseback ride along miles of trails. Rent a boat or bring your own for a sunny day out on the water — tubers, waterskiers, and paddlers are welcome, too. Post up with your rod and tackle box to reel in a trophy catch. Or, reserve a campsite for a tranquil night under the stars.

Are state recreational parks open year-round? 

• Yes, Kentucky’s state recreational parks are open year-round, but some amenities are offered seasonally. 

Do I need a permit to visit? Are there fees?

• Kentucky State Parks are free! Rentals, lodging, fishing licenses, and other amenities will require fees, but park entry is free of charge. 

Are pets allowed in the state parks? 

• Pets are welcome at Kentucky State Parks, but must be leashed at all times. Pets are prohibited from trails within State Nature Preserves. Look for signs for trail restrictions. Review the pet policy before your visit. 

Can I bring my own boat, kayak, and recreational equipment? 

• Yes, personal watercraft and recreational equipment are permitted. Many of the parks also feature boat rentals, fishing gear, and some basic supplies for purchase.

Are accommodations available?
